Abstract

The presence of Covid-19 has reduced the flow of remittances for Indonesian workers, many employees have been laid off and returned to Indonesia.  This study aims to analyze the dynamics of the flow of remittances on the volatility of the Indonesian exchange rate, using the Vector Autoregressive (VAR) method. The results obtained are an increase in the real exchange rate of the rupiah, which will increase the inflow of remittances. Due to the appreciation of the real exchange rate, the TKI will increase the amount of money they send. There is a one-way relationship between remittances and the real exchange rate of the rupiah. Forecasting results for the next 10 periods show that the flow of remittances has a stable graph, this is evidenced by the fact that many Indonesian migrant workers send their money over the years despite being constrained by COVID-19. In line with the steady flow of remittances, the forecast for the real exchange rate of the rupiah appreciated, due to stability and the possibility of increasing remittances.
