WE Online, Jakarta - The Ministry of Finance's Fiscal Policy Agency (FPA) in its capacity as the National Designated Authority (NDA) for the Green Climate Fund (GCF) held a seminar and panel discussion entitled "Green Climate Fund Opens Opportunities for Renewable Energy Investment in Indonesia" on 31 August 2018 at Balai Kartini, Jakarta. This seminar discussed financing opportunities offered by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for sustainable energy projects in Indonesia and various ways to access this financing.
Panelists from the Indonesian State Electricity Company (PLN), PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (PT SMI), PT Indonesia Infrastructure Finance, XacBank, and GCF will share their knowledge in developing renewable energy project proposals.
Head of the Center for Climate Change and Multilateral Financing Fiscal Policy Agency, Dr. Parjiono, said Indonesia faces several challenges in the energy sector due to an increase in the middle class and consumption.
"One of the challenges is how we provide energy for increasing demand besides how to divert our main energy source, namely fossil fuels, and replace it with renewable energy. For this purpose, we need several choices of funding sources to fund the development," explained Parjiono in Jakarta, Friday (31/08/2018).
Leo Hyoungkun Park, as the GCF representative said that until August 2018, the GCF portfolio consisted of 74 projects from around the world worth US$12.1 billion.
"The projects are estimated to reduce CO2 emissions by around 1.3 billion tons and increase resilience to climate change for 217 million people," said Leo Hyoungkun Park.
Appointed as a Delivery Partner by FPA, GGGI supports BKF by providing a program of readiness and preliminary activities for FPA and related institutions in building capacity in order to utilize GCF funding effectively and efficiently.
GGGI Indonesia's Country Representative, Marcel Silvius, said that the main objective of this program was to increase the capacity of domestic institutions related to the actualization of the core principles of the GCF business model, which is a state-driven approach.
