The Green Climate Fund supports all three phases of the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) mechanism by the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change (UNFCCC). The REDD+ Results Based Payments (RBP) Pilot Programme is open to countries who have completed the first two phases and have the results for the 2013 - 2018 period. The pilot programme began in October 2017 and will be closed at the last GCF Board Meeting in 2022.
From 2014 to 2016, Indonesia achieved the emissions reduction results corresponding to the recalculated Forest Reference Emission Level (FREL) amounting to 144,989,856 tCO2 eq, of which 27 million tCO2 eq was proposed for performance-based payments (RBP) to the GCF REDD+ facility. The value of the proposed RBP after adjustment is equivalent to USD 103.8 million at USD 5 per ton of CO2eq.
Indonesia will utilize the fund to strengthen coordination, implementation and overall REDD+ architecture, supporting decentralized sustainable forest management through Forest Management Units (FMUs) and Village Forest, and project management.
