Bisnis.com, JAKARTA-- The government will ensure a mechanism to take part in the green climate fund (GCF) of US$100 billion, in the near future where the funds will be used for the development of new renewable energy. The US$100 billion GCF fund will be given to developing countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Paris Agreement on climate change.
Director General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Rida Mulyana said, to target the funds, the government will first look at how the GCF mechanism is. Rida could not yet say how much money Indonesia would get for sure.
“We need to make sure the country and the fund, which technology will be use, and the mechanism. We will confirm it near in the future. Said her in the discussion event in Jakarta, Wednesday (6/12).
The fund will only be use in 2020. Later on, the fund will be channeled to PT Sarana Multi Infrastructure (SMI). According to Rida, the fund will be use to develop the renewable energy potential.
“Indonesia promised to reduce carbon emission by 41% in 2030 and increase the 235 renewable energy mix by 2025. This follows our commitment to the world. The development of renewable energy is very important. "
A while ago, the government choose PT SMI to provide funding in geothermal sector or geothermal fund coming from the APBN 2017 and a World Bank grants of Rp3.7 trillion.
The 2017 APBN amounts to Rp3 million, with the remaining geothermal fund will get additional budget coming from World Bank grants of US$ 55.25 million or around Rp700 million.
According to Rida, Government and PT PLN continue to focus on developing environmentally friendly energy. In this year alone, the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) that done between Independent Power Producer (IPP) with PLN already reach 1.200 megawatt.
In General Plan for Electricity Supply (RUPTL) 2017-2026, the government targeted the construction of power plants from environmentally friendly energy to reach 21.600 MW.
The power plant consist of 14.100 MW Hydroelectric Power Plants (PLTA) 6.300 MW Geothermal Power Plants (PLTP), and other power plants, such as Wind Power Plants (PLTB), and other 1.200 MW Power Plants.
